Self-watering containers

I was inspired by this book, and this book yesterday. I got them from the library. I was so inspired, that I spent all of my waking hours trying to figure out how to do it free/cheap. I found things like this online while I was thinking. I bought something like this from my local nursery to use as the false bottom to make the water resevoir...

I found this cool site for very expensive planters ( I intend to make my own)

So here is what I did for my first trial.

Empty juice containers and wet florists foam block.

Cut container, cut foam, put together.

Put in dirt (I just put a little bit, because I'm going to try again with the potatoes) and fill the water resevoire.

I see well-watered spuds in your future.

Is this container really big enough for potatoes? This is such an interesting thing.
