escapism

it's been a while.

in the past while,

i found a leetle baby bird, all new and shivery, squeaky and hungry that i took to the wildlife rehab people.

i made huge quantities of pizza dough which i promptly rolled out and froze so that i could have delicious fast meals. i froze it with cardboard circles between each one so that they wouldn't stick together.

yum.

anica discovered a beautiful combination. tapioca pudding topped with basil flowers. it sounds weird, but it is truly scrumptious.

i tried to airlay some kumquat cuttings, but they died.

i harvested 3 potatoes from my potato box that quickly got passed on and replanted.

the jewelry store i work for decided to close, which means i have more free time as of next week.

my computer died. yep. dead dead. dead. but, the wonderful people at super geeks can revive it by replacing the hard drive. for the small fee of a few hours of chair massage and a hundred bucks or so.

i read 3 or 4 thousand pages of little kid fantasy and science fiction. umm. yah. i've had some escapist traits protruding into my real life the last few weeks.

i've gone on a few beautiful hikes.

You're back! Hurray!

And you're private! Therefore you have rendered Google Reader powerless! I am going to have to become a drive-by hopeful again. For you, I'm willing.

I want that baby bird. I want those incredible tree roots. I want to be there and also you to be here. I want, I want, I want.

The end.

Well, my reactions are pretty much the same as Georgia's. Happy to hear more from you, and wondering how I'll keep abreast without Reader to notify mem that you've posted something. Becca and I have been aching with homesickness for Oahu lately; Matt and Virginia Barclay are heading over to La'ie for a job interview soon. How nice to see photos, read impressions of island life.

love you,
Martin

P.S. Do tell more about your kilopages of kiddie SF. I put our entire sick brood to bed the other night and by nine pm, was alone awake in the house with nothing to do. I re-read an oldie that I remembered as a goodie but now reprocessed as
"should have been classified as kiddie SF" - which is not to say that some childrens science fiction isn't great - which leads me back to my question of what you'd been reading.

i want you all here too! sorry about the change to private, i made a deal with jacob that i would change the settings to make him feel more comfortable about my posting pictures of him. about the childrens sci-fi, i usually have about 10 min. to pick books. so, i go into the childrens section, look for neat cover pictures and themes that i know i'll appreciate. dragons, unicorns, little kids have great adventures... this week i've been reading bruce collins, the unicorn chronicles. i also like the charlie bone series, there are a bunch of short little series out there right now acutally. and to be honest, hardly any of what i've read stands out, but i haven't found anything that i think is bad or offensive. i guess it's my version of leaving the tv on inthe backround.
